LON failed to prevent international conflicts as their weaknesses became more oblivious in the 1930's after facing a real challenge from Japan. The main reasons for its failures revolves around the lack of troops and ineffective structure. Without troops, the LON is unable to settle disputes between countries as the countries will not feel under threat. It had aimed to ask for troops from other nations but, since all nations are facing economic problems, they were unwilling to provide arm forces to resolve problems. The Big Three were also weakened; thus, were not active in finding the best solutions and providing support.
The LON's structure is too complex therefore they were slow to act as they need to get the approval of all members before the plan can be carried out. Moreover, two other major powers were not part of the LON (USA + USSR); thus, they have significantly less power than they could have had.
Good Putter -what about the role of the other powers though eg GB and Fr? Why didn't they act? What about the world economic situation? Where did the goodwill of the 1920s go? What new political forces were emerging at this time?
